City Spotlight

Attapulgus, located in GMA's District 10 was incorporated in 1866. The city is located in the southwest corner of the state, near the Georgia-Florida line. The region's clay soil has an abundance of attapulgits, a mineral subsequently named after the town.

Fun Fact: The area's coastal plain soil is so rich, in fact, the University of Georgia operates a Research and Education Center conducting trials on agronomic crops and long-term research on soil fertility and crop rotation.
