Facilitating Conversations

Facilitating conversations around diversity, equity, and inclusion in an intense and powerful emotional environment, often reveals significant differences in worldviews or perspectives, resulting in disastrous consequences. The consequences create an atmosphere of tension, conflict, and fear that inevitably contributes to discomfort developing the hardening of biased views mitigating the probability of continuing dialogue.

GMA's goal is to work with member cities and their communities to facilitate the essential conversation setting to channel the emotions into constructive dialogue.

Fire Department Promotional Assessment

As Fire Chiefs fill positions through promotions or from vacancies, they often seek alternative ways to evaluate candidates for selecting the most qualified person for the position. Assessment Centers provide a method of evaluating one’s ability to perform their roles and responsibilities not observed in day-to-day job activities. The most common forms of assessments include prediction (promotions), diagnosis (identifying strengths/weakness), and development (training intervention). GMA will work with each Fire Department's leadership to create an assessment process that provides an equitable, ethical, and qualitative promotional process to produce tangible performance results that encompass good judgment and decision-making skills when making final selections.
