GMA is calling for Practicum project proposals from cities for the Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 semesters. The Local Government Practicum program pairs cities with students from universities across Georgia to work on semester-long research projects the City may not otherwise have the capacity to undertake. In turn, students studying for their Master of Public Administration or a related field have this unparalleled opportunity to gain firsthand experience in local government and contribute to a meaningful project. This call is open through Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Any proposals accepted after this date may not be considered until a later semester.
Since 2007, the Practicum program has overseen more than 100 projects between Georgia cities and university students.
Why host a Practicum project?
- Add capacity to projects where hiring a consultant or expending other resources might not be feasible
- Help shape the next generation of municipal workers by giving students firsthand experience in local government
- Receive objective, well-researched and high quality analysis and recommendations that lend credibility to a project
- Gather more data and public/stakeholder input to inform decision-making
- Benefit from a fresh “outsider” perspective and the unique skills that each student brings to the table
