First responders regularly encounter critical incidents or traumatic events that often have negative psychological impacts. These events, individually or cumulatively, can affect the physical and mental wellbeing of our first responders and have devastating consequences to the first responder’s work life and home life. We begin this week's episode by hearing from Stan Deese, GMA’s Director of Risk Management Services, who provides a brief update on recent efforts related to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Then, Wes Horne, Director of Georgia’s Office of Public Safety Support (OPSS) shares information on OPSS, which was established to provide resources to first responders dealing with the psychological trauma that is often part of their daily duties. Wes also discusses the peer support / mental health services that OPSS provides to Georgia’s first responders.
