Feedback Needed on GDOT's Policy for Consultation Process with Local Officials in Non-Metro Areas

October 6, 2021

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Planning Division is asking for your feedback on the Department’s policy (linked below), which guides GDOT’s process for the consultation with rural local governments to ensure that the concerns from rural Georgia are addressed in the statewide transportation planning process.

As local officials, your role is critical and much appreciated in the development of the State’s Strategic Transportation Plan (SWTP/SSTP) and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Ongoing communication between GDOT and rural governments throughout Georgia helps the Department to understand the priorities of your communities and to incorporate those into GDOT’s important planning documents more effectively.

While GDOT’s collaboration with rural officials is continuous, especially via District Offices throughout the state, this policy, defined per federal law (23 CFR 450.210), describes the methodology that is recommended for successful rural local government consultation. GDOT wants to get your thoughts on the effectiveness of the current process, as they seek ways to improve their partnership with local governments.

GDOT Division of Planning requests you provide any comments on the existing policy no later than Friday, December 3, 2021. Please send comments to stipcoordinator@dot.ga.gov. If you have any questions, they request you contact them via the same email address.
