Over the past few years there has been a growing problem related to internet cafés and other business establishments of a similar sort which utilize the sales of phone cards, internet time, or other similar sales as a subterfuge to skirt Georgia’s gambling laws.
GMA has worked over the past few legislative sessions to seek a statutory fix that would more clearly show that these types of business practices are illegal.
Additionally, GMA has worked to increase local abilities and control over such establishments and were successful in doing so with the legislation that passed the General Assembly in 2012 and 2013 and was signed by the Governor. As a result, GMA has created a model ordinance which follows the allowances given in state law and should help keep these establishments out of our cities.
