The Watkinsville Police Department recently welcomed its newest recruit, veteran officer Brandon Torrence.
Jim Luken was a Vietnam veteran and U.S. Marine colonel who traveled the globe supervising embassies and consulates. Also, he loved small town America so much that he became Watkinsville’s longest serving 21st century mayor in the same decade that he moved here.
Watkinsville Mayor Bob Smith has encouraged citizens to patronize local businesses. “We have to have our economy moving again,” he said at a recent City Council meeting, “because this is a very, very serious situation.”
Mayor Bob Smith encouraged Watkinsville residents to, “emerge from our homes and utilize smart, common-sense safe distance practices and resume our lives,” in a press release posted to social media Sunday.
“They have a servant’s heart, and they will serve this community,” said Watkinsville Police Chief Shannon Brock.
Watkinsville is the first municipality in Georgia to install a wireless network for people who use hearing aids or cochlear implants.
