Embrace Civility
The Embrace Civility initiative encourages Georgia’s municipal leaders to model respectful, productive discourse, even in disagreement. Through resources like the civility pledge and "9 Pillars of Civility," cities can foster trust, enhance civic engagement, and earn recognition as a City of Civility.
Excellence in Policing
The Excellence In Policing Certification program provides Georgia law enforcement agencies with model policies, resources, and best practices that meet standards in line with other certification programs and can be implemented in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
Georgia Initiative for Community Housing
The Georgia Initiative for Community Housing helps communities improve their quality of life and economic vitality through the development of locally-driven housing and revitalization strategies.
Literacy, Youth Engagement, and Civic Leadership
GeorgiaForward, a Georgia Municipal Association nonprofit, unites emerging leaders, students, mayors, and community advocates from across the state to build vibrant and economically prosperous communities. Through programs focused on young professional leadership development, literacy initiatives, youth engagement, and cross-sector collaboration, GeorgiaForward unites our state and empowers leaders through innovative programs and stratgic parnterships that help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
Municipal Workforce Development
GMA's Jobs With Purpose: Municipal Workforce Development Initiative was launched in 2021 with the goal of helping local leaders across the state proactively address their workforce development needs.
Award Programs
Lifetime Service Award
The Lifetime Service Award recognizes elected city officials, city managers, city clerks and city attorneys who, upon leaving office or retiring, had completed 35 or more years of service.
Municipal Government Hall of Fame
The GMA Municipal Government Hall of Fame was established in 1992. It recognizes municipal officials that have made extraordinary contributions to municipal government, exemplify the very best in public service, and who been a strong supporter of GMA.
Visionary City Award
Each year, GMA partners with Georgia Trend to honor nine cities that have created positive community change through effective civic engagement and collaboration.
