Mission Statement

The mission of the Waycross Mayor’s Youth Council is to broaden the scope of youthleadership in Waycross, Georgia through volunteerism, service, and initiatives that are directed towards allowing youth input into policy issues, identifying youth issues, andparticipating in the development of positive solutions.

Code of Conduct

  • Be prompt and present at all meetings and dress appropriately.
  • Be respectful in thetreatment of and the interaction with other people.
  • Be mindful of safety issues to ensurethat everyone stays safe from harm and injury.
  • Be courteous and do not talk on yourcellphone during meetings (mute cell phone).
  • Be aware of inappropriate behavior and stayout of trouble at home and at school.

Selection Process

Interested candidates complete an application and a selection committee review all applications and select up to nine.

Do youth council members attend schools in the city or county or both? Are members enrolled in private school or home schooled?

Private school and home schooled students are eligible to apply.

Does group act as an advisory committee for your City Council and/or County Commission

Yes.

Does group participate in overnight events?

Yes. Guidelines are being developed but the city will provide lodging and travel to and fromthe destination.

Make sure you involve your school system early in the process.
