HB 1277, SPLOST Funds for Temporary Public Safety Campaigns

This bill would allow special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) funds to be used for a temporary public safety campaign. Funds used for a temporary public safety campaign may only be used for the following purposes:

  • A capaign for the recruitment, training, or retention of public safety professionals not to exceed two years and limited to advertising, placement agenscies or recruitment specialists, one-time stipends, or enhanced stipends in training;
  • A campaign to recruit and train individuals specialized to assist with mental helath issues of citizens;
  • A campaign to train public emergency medical technicians in methods of addressing mental helath issues related to public safety;
  • The purchase, maintenance, or operation of new public safety equipment or software;
  • The repair or upgrade of existing public safety equipment; or
  • Any combination of two or more of the above.
