House Bill 311 provides local governments an option to grant temporary ad valorem property tax relief for eligible damaged or destroyed properties located in a nationally declared federal disaster area. Each local governing authority is authorized to grant tax relief through either a reduction in the millage rate or through a flat dollar amount to be credited equally among eligible tax parcels. Tax relief would be applicable for the taxable year in which the disaster occurred.
