Rep. Mandisha Thomas
District 65

House Bill 893 allows for a three-year statewide homestead tax exemption for those that own and operate a commercial farm or tree farm on their property. The bill requires the applicant to be engaged in farming on no more than five acres of the homestead property. HB 893 requires applicants for the ad valorem tax exemption to currently be engaged in farming on their property but for no more than five years prior to application. The bill allows for the exemption to be renewed automatically for up to 12 years as long as the property owner occupies the residence as a homestead. HB 893 would require a statewide vote for approval or rejection of the homestead tax exemption.
