Georgia Cities Rally at the Capitol

Cities showed up in big numbers for the legislative networking breakfast and rally at the State Capitol on Monday, Jan. 28 to conclude the annual Mayors' Day Conference. More than 100 city officials attended the first-ever Cities United Day at the Capitol.

Earlier that morning, city leaders heard from Governor Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Geof Duncan and House Speaker David Ralston, all of whom expressed their appreciation for the work that city officials do and thanked them for coming to the Capitol. 

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms, in welcoming her fellow city officials to Atlanta for the networking breakfast at the Georgia Freight Depot, also took a moment to endorse GMA. 

“I want to give a personal thanks to the Georgia Municipal Association for standing in the gap with us in the city of Atlanta," she said. "I know that we have some members of our city council here – Joyce Shepherd and also President (Felicia) Moore. We were recently deliberating on a very big redevelopment project, and there was a request to have an independent analysis done – and I didn’t know where to begin. But someone referred me to the Georgia Municipal Association and because of this municipal association, we were able to get an independent analysis done that really helped become the catalyst for us being able to move forward and get the passage of the redevelopment of the Gulch. So just a personal thank you, and if you have not availed yourselves to the resources that are available, make sure that you do it because it really comes in handy.”
