Mission Statement

  • Vision - The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council seeks to prepare youth for a lifetime of public and community service, regardless of the youth’s present or future career aspirations.
  • Mission - To broaden the scope of youth leadership through volunteerism, service and initiatives that are directed toward allowing youth input into policy issues, identifying youth issues, and participating in the development of positive solutions.

Code of Conduct

  • Maintain a 2.5 G.P.A. or higher
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Council Bylaws
  • Attend orientation
  • Commit to a one-two year term, or until graduation
  • Attend regular monthly meetings
  • Attend work session and city commission meetings
  • Attend networking opportunities with other Mayor Youth Councils in Georgia
  • Attend the Annual Retreat in order to set goals and objectives for the year
  • Attend GMA Conference that is held in January
  • Attend Legislative Days in Atlanta
  • Participate in the Monthly Television Show
  • Participate in Teen Voting
  • Participate in Back to School events
  • Plan and host Mayor’s Youth Summit

Selection Process

Applications are submitted with an interview scheduled. As part of the application process, each student submits an essay that is reviewed and rated by an advisory group. Students are then interviewed by the group and selected as recommended.

Does group participate in overnight events?

Yes. Members must travel with city representatives, stay with the group at all times, are expected to participate, cannot change rooms without permission, and must have permission forms filled out by parent/guardian before leaving.

This is an outstanding initiative that greatly benefits the city and its youth.
