The mission of the Snellville Youth Commission is to promote education in governmental affairs, engage the youth of the Snellville area in civic activities and build practical and effective leadership skills.
Any Youth Commission member may be immediately removed, with written notice from the Advisory Board, for behavior that, in the opinion of the Youth Council and Advisory Board, is not consistent with the values or intent of the Youth Commission. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to arrest, conviction, failed classes, poor school attendance and/or attitude not befitting of a Youth Commission Member.
Application and Interview. Both are scored based on a rubric and students with highest scores are selected.

Make the program and activities relevant for the students.
For the past two years, the students have planned a youth forum where they invite local officials and community leaders to a speed dating style dinner where the students are able to discuss the issues that interest them on a personal level. The students have been able to engage in conversations with member of the City Council (and staff), Gwinnett Board of Education, Gwinnett Board of Commissioners, Georgia House of Representatives, a State Court Judge and others.
