Mission Statement

The Youth Council was formed to give high school students the opportunity to provide meaningful input to City. Youths will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and contribute to their community by affecting positive change for students in our City and across Georgia. Not only will these discussions impact the lives of other students, but it will also provide valuable knowledge for public education leaders throughout our City and Surrounding Cities.

Code of Conduct

  • Be prompt and present at all meetings and dress appropriately.
  • Be respectful in the treatment of and the interaction with other people.
  • Be mindful of safety issues to ensure that everyone stays safe from harm
  • and injury
  • Be courteous and do not talk on or use a cell phone during meetings.
  • Be aware of inappropriate behavior and stay out of trouble at home,
  • School, and the Community
  • Always conduct yourself in a respectable manner.

Selection Process

  • Be a resident of the City of Lovejoy.
  • Attend a school (or home school) and be in the 9th,10th, 11th graders
  • For the 2024-2025 School year,
  • Commit to attend at least 20 of 24 of the scheduled monthly meetings,
  • August to May Every Second Monday from 6pm to 7pm
  • Agree to complete a community service project.
  • Obtain own transportation to and from meetings and events.
  • Attend All Leadership and City Training Sessions
  • Have a minimum 3.00 GPA.

Does group act as an advisory committee for your City Council and/or County Commission

The Youth Advisory Board is a board of adults in the City who are selected to contribute their diverse perspectives and impart experience on issues that matter to young people. The adults who make up the Board will be responsible for implementation and contribution to the future of the City’s young people involved in the Youth Council.

Does group participate in overnight events?

We have not participated in any overnight trips as yet. However, we plan to in the future.

Words of advice to share with cities considering the establishment of a youth council

There are many benefits to our City using effective approaches to youth participation, such as

  • Increased youth involvement and engagement
  • Budget savings and revenue generation
  • Enhanced support for city initiatives
  • Improved policies and programs for youth
  • Strengthened image as a youth-friendly and inclusive community
