The Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, administered by FEMA, provides funding to fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations, and State Fire Training Academies (SFTAs) for critical equipment, training, facility retrofits, and health initiatives. The program enhances firefighter and public safety, reduces risks from fire and related hazards, and improves operational efficiency and community resilience.
- Eligibility: Eligible applicants include fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS organizations, and SFTAs. Projects must align with goals such as equipping emergency personnel to recognized standards, improving health and wellness, acquiring emergency vehicles, and retrofitting facilities for safety.
- Match Details: Applicants must meet a cost-sharing requirement based on jurisdiction size:
- 5% match for populations ≤20,000.
- 10% match for populations between 20,001 and 1 million.
- 15% match for populations >1 million.
FEMA provides a cost-share calculator to assist applicants. Only cash contributions or trade-in allowances/credits are allowable matches; in-kind matches are not permitted.
