The grant seeks to support low-cost, high-impact home modifications for low-income elderly individuals. The grant is designed to enable seniors to safely "age in place," reducing the need for nursing homes or assisted living facilities by making their homes safer and more functional.
- Eligible Projects: Modifications include installing grab bars, railings, and lever-handled fixtures, as well as adaptive equipment such as ramps, transfer benches, handheld showers, raised toilet seats, and non-slip surfaces for tubs and stairs.
- Professional Involvement: A licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) oversees each project, ensuring modifications align with the client’s goals and specific functional needs. Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists and OT Assistants may also assist under an OT's supervision.
- Available Funding: Approximately $30 million in funding is available, with HUD expected to issue around 15 awards. Importantly, no cost-sharing or matching is required.
- Application Process: Interested entities must submit applications by November 19, 2024, using the guidelines provided by HUD in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).
