House Bill 1455, introduced by Representative Bill Hitchens (R-Rincon), would expand arrest and investigatory powers for officers with the Georgia Ports Authority to one mile from any property under the agency’s jurisdiction. Thus, within one mile of such property, officers with the Georgia Ports Authority may exercise arrest and investigatory powers concerning motor vehicle accidents, violations of state law, preventing or dispelling acts of disorderly conduct, or to make initial inquiries (questioning) into any situation where there are reasonable grounds to believe a crime has been or is about to be committed.
